Biography
History
DJ Delay is one of several musical outlets for UK born Brian May. His musical love affair started off by playing trumpet in a Big Band Swing group at age 6. Since then he has been performing and (later on) Djing music from all 5 continents and has already lived in 3 of them. Migrating to Melbourne in 89 saw him host a 12 year long weekly no-holds barred radio show on Melbournes PBSFM. He formed and played in several bands during the 90s & 00s in Melbourne. Delay’s spent the last 10 years living between Melbourne, Osaka & Berlin.
Australia: Hosting a radio show, coupled with performing in Melbournes overactive live scene, you would imagine that this would satisfy his hunger for sound. Not so - in 95 he started producing electronic music and club DJing across several styles, ending up focusing on Balkan, Dub, Asian, Oriental + Worldwide club sounds, plus Jungle/Drum and Bass. Between 2006 and 2008 he co-ran the Submerge Chill Festival and The Good, The Bad & The Balkan club night in Melbourne.
Japan: Between 02 and 04 Delay lived in Osaka, regularly guesting with Reggae/Cumbia group Bush Of Ghosts, touring and DJing across the country.
Germany: Since relocating to Berlin in late 08 DJ Delay has released a cutting edge East European remix album and toured extensively across European clubs and festivals.
In summary, hes been very busy the last 20 years in several aspects of music:
18 years presenting Into The Groovy (PBSFM Melbourne & www.straightup.com.au)
16 years DJing (club+festival in Australia, NZ, Japan, Europe, Canada)
16 years of Electronic music production.
To date DJ Delay (and his alter egos Beam Up & Sonical) have released 3 albums & over 30 tracks on a wide range of labels in 6 countries.
Styles
Worldwide club (breaks, techno, D&B, hip-hop, urban etc), dub (roots reggae & digital) plus traditional sounds tailored for the dancefloor or listening (e.g. 5 star restaurant). Specialist musical areas are Balkan, Oriental, Jamaican, Indian. Highly flexible - having played several large festivals (Glastonbury, Fusion, Big Day Out, Voov, Earthcore etc) , clubs and bars, high class restaurants and even a pachinko parlour opening in Japan. Over 1000 gigs to date and counting.
